CONTRACT LENGTH: 9th September - 4th December 2015.
Employment Duties
- To perform high quality dental nursing whilst assisting each dentist and hygienist in all dental procedures in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the ‘Code of Ethics’ of the British Association of Dental Nurses and the GDC requirements and recommendations to dentists and their staff.
- To establish and build caring relationships with the clients of the practice.
- To internally market the practice.
- Help with clinical audit as required.
- To establish and maintain productive working relationships with all members of the dental team.
- To liaise with the Principals on all matters concerning administration, pay and service conditions.
- To assist at the reception and perform other clerical duties if required.
- To take reasonable care for her/his own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by her/his acts at work.
Key Tasks
- Set-up and prepare the surgery for the type of patient and treatment planned before the start of each session.
- Clean and sterilise all equipment and working surfaces to the required standards at the end of each session.
- Ensure safe disposal of sharps and clinical waste.
- Prepare the necessary materials and instruments.
- Process dental x-rays and assist in the correct procedure for dental radiography.
- Liaise with reception over necessary future appointments for each patient.
- Escort patients from the lounge to the surgery, confirming the medical history is up to date and warning the dentist/hygienist of any problems that he/she has noted.
- Provide clinical assistance to the dentist/hygienist while treating the patient, acting under his/her supervision.
- Continually interpret the needs of patients and dentist/hygienist and deal with them promptly and efficiently.
- Assist the dentist/hygienist in the completion of patient records.
- Monitor and maintain stocks within dental surgery as necessary, informing the Business Manager and liaising with the dentist/hygienist over necessary orders and warning of any shortages of materials in the stores.
- Perform chaperoning duties for dentist/hygienist when treating patients.
- Follow and adhere to all practice policies and procedures.
- Obey all dental ethical guidelines including all rules on confidentiality.
- Ensure that all necessary laboratory work is returned and ready for each session.
- Assist in all clerical and administrative duties as required by the Principals.
- Report equipment failures or breakages to the Business Manager.
- Identify your training and development needs and undertake appropriate training as required and agreed with the Business Manager, ensuring CPD is kept up-to-date.
- Perform any other tasks are reasonably requested by the Principals.
Key Reception Tasks (when required to be on Reception)
- Receive and deal with the patients in a pleasant manner.
- Maintain the record systems of the practice.
- Keep records of all appointments and remind patients of their appointments.
- Answer the telephone efficiently.
- Carry out routine house-keeping procedures on the computer.
- Inform the Business Manager & Principals about patient comments and complaints.
- Manage the retail sales of the practice.

Working Hours
- Monday to Thurs (8:00am – 5:30pm)
- Friday (8:00am – 1:00pm)
- You will be required to work one late evening per month (until 7pm) and receive one afternoon per quarter as time in lieu.
Annual Leave Entitlement
- 20 days per year plus UK bank holidays (pro rata)

- An hourly rate of around £9.50 will be paid depending on experience.
